FLOWERY BRANCH – The Falcons are allowed to carry 90 players on the roster into training camp.
The team is currently at 89 and are looking to add a cornerback. They worked out Leon Hall and Brandon Boykin.
The Falcons started their OTAs on Monday and the main questions surrounding the special teams units is whether rookie Nick Rose can beat out wily veteran Matt Bryant for the field goal kicker position.
Rose was impressive in his first OTA session on Monday. He has a live leg and was hitting the top of the filming crane on his kicks. Bryant’s kick didn’t have the same height or velocity, but he’s trusty and accurate.
Also, the Falcons appear set to wait on returner Devin Hester, who is attending the offseason program and receiving rehab treatments from trainer Marty Lauzon after undergoing foot and toe surgery in January.
His recovery time was slated to be between three and six months, but the Falcons are just hopeful that he can return before training camp in late July.
Rookie wide receiver Devin Fuller, who has some potential as a returner, was limited in the OTAs because of a hamstring injury.
