FLOWERY BRANCH — Here are five quick takes from Monday’s practice.

1. Mayes down. Nose tackle Chris Mayes, who played at Georgia and is from Griffin, was escorted from the field by a trainer with an apparent injury. We’ll get an update from Coach Dan Quinn. Check back for updates.

2. Goodwin not at practice. Cornerback C.J. Goodwin was not at practice.

3. Rose continues to struggle. Kicker Nick Rose, who missed two field goals in the exhibition game, missed two of his tries in practice. Kicker Matt Bryant did not practice because of “tightness.” Safety Kemal Ishmael (shoulder) and running back Terron Ward (ankle) did not practice.

4. Freeney blows up play. Defensive end Dwight Freeney jetted pass backup left tackle Bryce Harris so fast and got in Matt Schaub’s face so quick, the offense had to stop the play and reset.

5. Red zone force. Running back Devonta Freeman has superior vision. During the red zone practice, he saw an inside hole and hit it. He sharply cut back to the right and went in for the touchdown untouched.

Check back on AJC.Com and MYAJC.com later for updates.
