Here are five things to know about the Falcons on Labor Day:

1. Game week. The opening to the regular season is finally here.  The Falcons are set to face Tampa Bay at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Georgia Dome. The Bucs were 2-0 against the Falcons last season. The game also will mark the return to the NFL of former Falcons head coach Mike Smith. He was hired as Tampa Bay’s defensive coordinator over the offseason. Smith is the winningest coach in Atlanta Falcons history.

2. Jones is humble, forthright. Falcons All-Pro wide receiver Julio Jones sat down with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution to discuss the upcoming season, his leadership approach and taking over the NFC South.

3. Practice. Falcons coach Dan Quinn will meet with the media before the 11:55 a.m. practice. There will be an open locker room session for the media.

4. Gabriel added. The Falcons claimed wide receiver Taylor Gabriel off waivers from the Cleveland Browns. The team released Nick Williams to make room for Gabriel.

5. McKissic is back. Promising young wide receiver J.D. McKissic was re-signed to the practice squad. The Falcons have filled out nine of their 10 slots.

The Falcons added running back Gus Johnson and cornerback Deji Olatoye this morning.
